Encouraging Creativity

Creativity knows no bounds, but age and experience can hinder brainstorms. How do we tap into all minds regardless of tenure? I’ve found starting each meeting by asking junior and senior staff to share non-work facts breaks barriers between titles. Moving to random brainwriting gives introverts space to ponder. And remembering that good ideas come from employees, not job roles, helps validate unconventional pitches.

What novel ways have you united teams of varied views? Emoji voting on suggestions sparks fun debates, as does randomized grouping to mix perspectives. Most importantly, leaders set the tone through active listening without judgment. Fresh eyes see what’s possible with an open mind.

We all have blindspots born of biases outside our control. But together, diversity becomes our strength. I challenge you to try unfamiliar structures to ignite little “a-ha’s” you may have missed alone. Your bold experiment might empower others in ways you can’t foresee!

Have you struck gold by switching up your standard brainstorm formula? I’d love to hear your successes – and failures! – in fostering creativity across generations. Our insights combined could help transform more teams.
