First Day
The first day on any new job can be nerve-racking, but keeping tabs on these key things will set you up for success:
Office essentials – Take time to learn where supplies are stored. Make note of printer locations, coffee station, supply closet, etc. Knowing the office layout makes you instantly more productive.
Colleagues to know – Introduce yourself to your direct coworkers and manager. Also say hi to those in adjacent teams, you’ll likely collaborate down the road. Adding names to faces boosts comfort.
Projects and priorities – your manager will review top responsibilities but listen for any urgent or upcoming work. Jot down notes to refer to so no important task slips through the cracks.
Tech and systems training – find out what programs and portals the company uses day to day. Whether its CRM, payroll website or project management tools, familiarize yourself so you can hit the ground running.
Company culture – watch how people communicate and collaborate. Are teams tight knit? Is humour or casual chat common? Taking cues make acclimating to the environment much smoother.
Questions big or small – actively seek clarification on anything throughout the day. It’s better to ask and avoid mistakes versus struggling silently. Managers respect newcomers eager to learn.
Before you know it, the day is done! How did you spend your initial hours on the job? Did any of these insights help make the experience less stressful? 🤔
